Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche

 

 

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche was born in 1975 to Trulku Ugyen Rinpoche and Sonam Chodon in Nepal. From a young age,  Rinpoche was keen on meditation and contemplative life. At the age of nine, he stayed in retreat for two years with his father at Negi monastery receiving instructions on Mahamudra and Mahasandhi. Rinpoche joined Sherabling monastery at 12 and learned the liturgical practices of the monastery from master Lama Tshultrim. He was recognised and enthroned as the seventh reincarnation of Yongey Mingyur by Tai Situ Rinpoche.

 

With the permission from his father and Tai Situ, he entered traditional three years retreat at the age of thirteen. At the command of Situ Rinpoche he served as retreat master at the age of seventeen.

 

In 1994 he joined Dzongsar Shedra and studied Buddhist philosophy like Middle Way and logic under Khenchen Kunga Wangchuk. Rinpoche started to teach abroad at the age of twenty. Rinpoche took his monastic vow from Tai Situ at the age of twenty three. He received great number of instructions from Trulshik Rinpoche and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche.

 

From a young age Rinpoche engaged into discussion with nuerologist Francisco Verela. Rinpoche entered as a subject to verify the effect of meditation on brain at Wisconsin university and the result were published in some of the highly regarded scientific journals. He also entered into scientific inquiry at Harvard and MIT, and was entitled as the happiest person alive.

 

Rinpoche left his monastery incognito in 2011 for four years practising in nature. He still continues to enter into dialogue with scientific community and is a member of Mind and Life.

 

Rinpoche helps with the activities of Sherabling, his two monasteries at Nepal and Bodhgaya and many retreat centres in Asia and abroad.

 

Rinpoche authored many best selling books, which were translated into more than twenty languages,  including <<The joy of living>> and <<Joy full wisdom>>.
