Khenpo Samdrup, the 13th abbot of Dzongsar Khamje Ngarig Thubtenling Lobling

Khenpo Samdup

Khenpo Samdrup was born in 1975, in Nyakshe Bamdha. In his young age he learned to read and write Tibetan from his parents. At 16, he received novice vows from Khenpo Zhenphen, of Serjong monastery, and completed monastic school and Shedra studies. At 20, he received all the vows of a fully ordained monk from Ngor Ludhing Rinpoche, Jamyang Tenpai Nyima. In the same year he joined Dzongsar Khamje Ngarig Thubtenling Lobling. He became an assistant teacher after four years of intensive studies on major treatises. From masters such as Kyabje Dzongsar Kyentse Rinpoche, Pewar Choktrul Rinpoche, Khenchen Pema Damchoe, Khenchen Apey Rinpoche, Khenchen Phuntsok Namgyal, Lamdrepa Jamyang Sengay, Khenchen Tseten and Polo Khenpo Thubten, he received complete teachings on Sutra and Tantra, including the Path and Fruit teaching, as well as the Eighteen Great Treatises, and Tibetan grammar. In 2008, he was enthroned as the 13th abbot of Dzongsar Khamje Ngarig Thubtenling Lobling. He implemented classes on the Ten Major Sciences such as Tantra, medicine, astrology, poetry, grammar, etymology, which by then were on the verge of extinction. Thousands of volumes of Buddhist cannons were reprinted and published. Khenpo Samdrup is the current principal of Dzongsar Khamje Shedra.
