The second abbot

The second abbot, Onten Khenrab Chokyi Yoezer

 

The second abbatial throne holder, Onten Khenrab Chokyi Yoezer, was born in Onpo tod and joined the monastery of Onto. From a very tender age he studied with many great teachers from all traditions. His main teachers are, Loter Wangpo, Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodoe, Ga Ngawang Legpa, Ju Mipham Namgyel, Zhenphen Chokyi Nangwa, Situ Pema Wangchok Gyelpo, Dagra Tashi Rinpoche etc.

Since he was one of the greatest disciples of Zhenga Rinpoche, was appointed to the abbatial throne of Dzongsar Khamje Shedra after Zhenga left and he served ten full years as the abbot. Dagyab Lodoe, Khangmar Rinchen, Dosib Thupten, ingpa Getshul, Dezhung Ajam, Dezhung Chophel are some of his scholarly students.

Later he was invited to teach at Palpung monastery by Situ Rinpoche and taught for seven years. He founded a teaching college at his monastery call Lhuenpo Tse and provided the facilities required for around thirty five and fifty students. In the winter of 1957, he with many of his students were captured by invading forces and died in prison with wondrous signs of attainments.

He was acknowledged as the reincarnation of Ngawang Lekdrup by Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodoe.
